“The participation of international chapters and Latin American medical associations can generate significant benefits: it is not merely about filling an auditorium, but about weaving a network of active cooperation that strengthens professional practice across the region. This inaugural CMD congress arrives at a critical moment for regional medicine, where challenges—ranging from brain drain and precarious working conditions to the rise of artificial intelligence and new epidemiological threats—demand joint responses that transcend national borders. For international chapters, attending means shifting from being spectators to becoming protagonists of a shared agenda, harmonizing ethical criteria, standardizing care protocols, and exchanging clinical experiences that only face-to-face, multilateral dialogue can offer. But the added value goes beyond the academic sphere: this summit stands as an unprecedented platform for political advocacy. By unifying the voices of different Latin American medical colleges, the guild gains collective strength capable of negotiating with governments and international bodies (such as PAHO or WHO) for fairer public policies, dignified health budgets, and effective recognition of medical autonomy. In short, the first International Congress of the CMD is not just another event on the calendar; it is the starting point of a union movement that seeks to restore Latin American physicians to the central role they deserve in health system decision-making, and international chapters hold the key to making this possible.”
