Here are the basic requirements for a radiology technician who graduated abroad to get their credentials in the United States:

- Education – You need to have completed an accredited radiography program in your home country, usually either an associate’s or bachelor’s degree. The program needs to be equivalent to U.S. radiography programs.
- English Proficiency – You will need to demonstrate English proficiency through an exam like the TOEFL or IELTS.
- ARRT Exam – To get licensed in the U.S. you need to pass the radiography exam from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- State License – Each state has its own requirements for licensing radiology techs. This usually involves submitting an application, paying a fee, and showing you are ARRT certified.
- Visa/Immigration – You will need a visa that allows you to live and work in the U.S. as a radiology technician. Common options are the H-1B work visa or TN visa for Canadian citizens.
- Credential Evaluation – To have your foreign education evaluated as equivalent to U.S. programs, you need a course-by-course credential evaluation from a NACES-approved agency.
