What are the requirements for me to have the sleep technician certification?
To become a certified sleep technician, you typically need to meet the following requirements:
EDUCACIÓN BÁSICA NECESARIA: PROFESIONALES DE LA SALUD, TODOS CALIFICAN
Education: You must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Some employers may prefer or require a post-secondary education in a related field such as respiratory therapy, nursing, or polysomnography.
Training: You must complete a polysomnography program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). This program typically takes 9 to 12 months to complete.
CUANTAS HORAS DE PRÁCTICA NECESITARÁ?
Clinical experience: You must complete a certain number of clinical hours in a sleep disorders center or lab. The specific number of hours required varies depending on the program, but typically ranges from 400 to 1,000 hours.
Exam: You must pass an exam administered by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT). This exam consists of 175 multiple-choice questions and covers topics such as sleep stages, scoring techniques, and patient safety.
Once you have met these requirements, you can apply for certification as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) through the BRPT. Certification must be renewed every five years through continuing education and passing a recertification exam
