1. Have a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor‘s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university.
2. Complete an approved, accredited nursing program and pass the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX–RN) or the NCLEX–PN.
3. Submit an application to the New York State Department of Education.
4. Submit your fingerprints and undergo a criminal background check.
5. Provide proof of at least two years of supervised practical nursing experience.
6. Demonstrate ability to speak, read, and write in English.
7. Submit evidence of completing continuing education units (CEUs).
8. Pass the New York State Nursing Jurisprudence Examination.
