Maria M. Molina was born in La Vega, Dominican Republic. Later she moved with her mother and two siblings to Washington Heights in New York City. She graduated from Brandeis High School and earned her undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences at Stony Brook University, Long Island.  After completing her Bachelors degree in 1985 she returned to her native Dominican Republic to pursue her dream of becoming a doctor. In 1990 she obtained a degree of Doctor of Medicine and Surgery from the Instituto Tecnologico de Santo Domingo (INTEC). She then returned to New York and while studying for the medical boards, she served as a teacher for the New York City Board of Education. She was licensed as a teacher by the state and city of New York in both Science and Spanish. After passing the State Medical Boards she joined the Mount Sinai Medical School Pediatric Residency Program at Elmhurst Hospital. She had the privilege of working under the direction of Dr. Villegas and Dr. Peralta in Queens and Dr. Juan Tapia Mendoza in Manhattan at Pediatrics 2000. She also worked as an assistant attending for Elmhurst Hospital and New York Presbyterian Hospital. She has served as a board member for the New York Presbyterian Community Physicians Organization. In 2004, she started a successful practice called First Step Pediatrics. From her practice in Hamilton Heights, she has served the community by offering Asthma and Nutrition orientations open to everyone. She also started a program “Walking For Health” and annually travels as a volunteer to the Dominican Republic with the program “Nutrition For Life” which is sponsored by Health First.  In August 2013, she started a new practice called First Step Medical, P. C. in the Bronx. She was named among The Distinguished Woman of 2000 by the newspaper “El Diario La Prensa”. She has received recognition from The Dominican Forum Community Service and by The Dominican Medical Association for her work towards the community.  Doctor Molina’s most precious accomplishment is having a beautiful family with three children: Soheila, Juan Emilio, and Julio Alberto, in her marriage of 35 years to Dr. Julio Sanchez.
