Elizabeth Garcia Pantaleón Biography.

Dr. Garcia was born in January 25th, 1959 in San Francisco de Macoris, but she grew up in Conuco Salcedo, Dominican Republic. She is the oldest of seven children from Jesus Antonio Garcia Pantaleón and Antonia Pantaleón Gonzalez. Since childhood, she developed a passion for Music and Singing, as well as, a strong desire to become a Medical Doctor. She attended elementary school in the town of Conuco Salcedo, and completed High School in Tenares.

Dr. Garcia began college in Santiago at the “Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra”, and later she transferred to the “Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo” to continue Medical School.  At a young age, Dr. Garcia participated in several Musical groups including, Rondalla Amistad Y Alegria de Salcedo, La Rondalla Universitaria de la UASD, Coro Universitario UCMMA, and Arpa Evangelica, where she participated as solo. Also, Dr. Garcia had the opportunity to record a song and other voices for well known singers from Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, in addition to commercial jingles.

Dr. Garcia started working in “Ramon de Lara” Air Force Military Hospital during her second year of Medical School. She Graduated from Medical School in 1985 and continued working in the same Hospital. Afterwards, she transferred to the outpatient clinic at the Social Security Hospital, where she worked  for several years. She also worked in pediatric outpatient at the Dominican Health and Social Welfare Hospital. The same year of her graduation, Dr. Garcia got married with a medical doctor from Nigeria with whom she has three children,  Chucks, Timothy and Elaine.

Dr. Garcia and her family migrated to the United States in 1991. During a visit to Nigeria, she had the opportunity to work for a short period of time as a medical doctor in “Monax Hospital”. By 1994, she started working for the Board of Education in New York City, as a substitute teacher. This job helped her learn English as a second Language.

In 2000, Dr. Garcia took a position as a technician B in the Anatomy and Cell Biology Department at Columbia University, position that she held for two years. During this time, she decided to further her education applying to the Master’s program, “Entry to Practice Program” at Columbia University School of Nursing.

Shortly after graduating from Columbia University, Dr. Garcia worked at New York Presbyterian Hospital in Pediatric Inpatient Oncology and Pediatric Outpatient. She also completed a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Program and graduated in 2008.  The same year, she started working as a primary care provider in Heritage Health Care Center, a Federal Qualify Health Center in Harlem. She currently manages the School Based Health Clinic (PS192/325/Hamilton Grange). Additionally, she works in two different Private Practices, “First Step Pediatrics” and “Boston Road Medical Center”.

Dr. Garcia is an active member in a variety of organizations such as National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners “NAPNAP”, American Academy of Pediatric in New Jersey, Hispanic Health Professional Association, Inc., and  Dominican College of Medicine, CMD.
